NoMy
Founded in 2020, NoMy is an Oslo-based bioscience company creating systems of production and consumption that are circular by nature. We use the transformative power and biointelligence of a billion years of fungal evolution to turn underutilized resources into regenerative and highly scalable solutions for materials and alternative proteins.
NoMy does this at three levels. First we work with large processing industries to identify and develop high-volume, low-value, nutrient-rich side streams of production into substrates for fermentation of fungal biomass as new sources of sustainable, high quality products, thereby shifting from waste management to waste utilization. Second, NoMy develops circular processes in the fungal fermentation production systems that make use of existing infrastructure with our industrial sidestream partners. Third, we cost-effectively create all-natural, fully compostable circular products.
Fungi are the fifth great kingdom of life, best known for the edible mushrooms. Fungi comprise around 5 million species - of which only 1% are known to science. Their unique and varied genetic, physio- and biochemical diversities make them extremely useful for the production of a variety of products, from penicillin and enzymes to beer and bread. Mycelium (the root-like filaments of fungi) builds a porous composite structure when grown in a woody substrate and becomes very stable and light when dried. Our mycelium-based products have a beautiful, organic tactility and color play, and their cultivation has a small environmental footprint.
