Brave New Lines
Brave New Lines is a young design studio following unconventional trajectories in pursuit of meaningful additions to everyday life. They extract value from untapped potential, and create expressive, pragmatic objects with a clear cut intent.
Brave New Lines are driven by a desire to reduce complexity, and aspire to challenge established norms within the industry by meeting todays needs of responsible production, effective transportation and transparent value chains. Our products shall – besides utilising locally sourced and durable materials – always be constructed for easy repairs.
As a preliminary exercise, their first products are all explorations on how to make use of standardized shelf material. With this approach, they enable small local workshops to take on production without risking the initial investments often required for specialized tooling. It also enables industry waste as a possible source of material gathering.
Brave New Lines was founded by Gunnar Eidsvik Tvedt (b. 1990) and Marius Angell Søvik (b. 1990) in 2018 after completing their master’s degree in industrial design at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Brave New Lines won BoBedre’s Interior Design Award for Newcomers’ in 2022. Eidsvik Tvedt received the ‘DOGA Award for Newcomers’ in 2019 for his master’s thesis, a baby bouncer developed with Stokke.
