The post-covid office based on collaboration and sustainable design

Together with interior architects Petersen & Gottelier, Novooi has redesigned offices for DIPS in Bjørvika to reflect co-creation, nature and circular design from Norway.

The workplace has changed significantly after covid. We now embrace a hybrid work culture with more flexibility to work remote. Likewise, we want to increase employee motivation and reasons to come back to the office.

Creative Director Lillian Ayla Ersoy from Novooi, together with interior architects Peterson & Gottelier, were commissioned to redesign the office interior. We began this prosess with an internal survey to get insight on employee needs in the spring of 2022. The following insights created the foundation for our solution:

  • Meeting rooms for creativity & cross-disciplinary work

  • Focus on well-being and culture in the workplace

  • Quiet zones for concentration

  • Noise level reduction in open desk areas

Our concept is based on sustainability, flow. well-being and collaboration.

The new workplace is a place where people feel at home and can easily come into contact with others to chat, collaborate, socialize and innovate. We created several «lounges» for interdisciplinary meetings that emphasise cross-collaboration. We also created several smaller rooms for focus, deep think and well-being.

Recycled waste: Tables from Elementa & Norwegian Trash are recycled plastic trash. Håg Tion Chairs from Flokk are made with 75% recycled & renewable materials.

«ØYA» lab for co-creation and play

The co-creation lab called 'ØYA' (meaning island) was named after the festival that used to be nearby every summer in Oslo. This room is used for cross-disciplinary workshops, courses and other gatherings with teams, customers, partners or even parties. Petersen & Gottelier custom designed the «lego» coffee tables for DIPS.

ØYA can be also be used as a normal work lounge with a café style layout. The tables, designed by 'Norwegian Trash, are portable on wheels and can be easily moved around into several layouts. We also created two smaller meeting rooms and a lounge for rest and well-being called 'Den øde øy' (the deserted island).

Circular and local design from Norway

We used locally designed furniture with recycled materials from Norway when possible. The «Tion» and «Håg Celi» chairs from Flokk are made with recycled aluminum and plastic. The «Norwegian Trash» portable tables for the co-creation lab «ØYA» are made with recycled plastic trash from the sea. We also created bespoke furniture with local craftspeople in Oslo.

Work with a view

The offices have huge oversized windows that looked out over the fjords and central station in Oslo, however these spaces were often left empty. We installed locally made benches in the windows so that employees could work with a view. We also installed soundproof pods in the open desk arenas for privacy and noise reduction.

Intertwined with nature

Plants were a vital part of the redesign to increase well-being, increase air quality, absorb sound and hide messy cables. The planters were custom-designed by Petersen & Gottelier to fit the brand while adding a vibrant and warm contrast to the previous black and white offices. Terracotta pots, designed by Anderssen & Voll and produced by Elementa, were placed all over the office. Custom made sound-absorbers were made out of cork and Norwegian wool.

The employee wall

The entrance wall, once empty is now transformed into the "employee wall" with magnetic Polaroid images of employees at the Oslo office. We bought a digital polaroid camera to snap fun pictures at employee events, reflecting the culture of DIPS.

Art from Ole Brodersen

The walls were dressed in art from Ole Brodersen. His art intertwines analogue pictures of Norwegian nature with technology and happy mistakes.
