Bokhari

Bokhari - where Norwegian design meets Pakistani craftsmanship – made with care for people and planet.

At Bokhari, Norwegian design meets Pakistani craftsmanship in the creation of stunning interior and textile products. Collaborating with selected Norwegian designers, Bokhari emphasizes responsible, sustainable production, using only natural, recycled, or reused materials in all handmade products. This approach not only fosters safe and decent workplaces for hundreds of artisans in Pakistan but also ensures access to education for their children at the LAMS school, located adjacent to the weaving mill.

An informal meeting in 2014 between designer Runa Klock and social entrepreneur Amar Bokhari was the basis for the restoration and continuation of the vision of creating unique handmade textile and interior products, and through that creating safe workplaces for women and men and schooling for their children – a work that was started over 30 years ago. Because the story of Bokhari goes all the way back to the end of the 1980s when the idea to produce the traditional Norwegian fillerya in Pakistan was conceived on a beautiful winter’s day at Maihaugen in Lillehammer.

People. Planet. Prosperity.

Sustainability, as Bokhari defines it, encompasses three essential dimensions: economy, environment, and social conditions. These are often referred to as the "triple bottom line"—people, planet, and prosperity. The balance and interconnection between these three factors determine true sustainability. Bokhari is committed to finding innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact while aligning with consumption and economic needs, ensuring resources are distributed in a more equitable way. This, in turn, makes sustainability achievable for both people and the environment.

Sustainable. Human. Engaged.

Do businesses have a responsibility towards people and the environment? At Bokhari, the answer is a resounding and unequivocal YES. By taking their responsibility beyond expectations and pushing the boundaries, they strive to make their small but meaningful contribution to a better world.

Bokhari consists of a total of over 450 women and men, in Pakistan and Norway. Creative director Runa Klock and general manager Amar Bokhari, together with warehouse manager Monica Breivik, handle all work in Norway, whereas all production takes place in Sultan Town, a suburb of Faisalabad in Pakistan. There, our skilled artisans, mostly women, make all our products. Our shared vision is to contribute to a more sustainable future for people and the planet.
